The Joy of Fields and Meadows

As I already said, I love all Russian shawls, but some of them I find irresistible. This one - Joy by Valeria Fadeeva - is one of them. It is adorned with glorious mauve roses, which are an integral element of a Russian shawl, but in addition to that, there are the loveliest grasses and field flowers. The subdued colors make the shawl easy to wear; it will look great with many outfits, including white formal or wedding dresses, and blue jeans.

The shawl can be bought in our Etsy shop, and I only have one.

Highlights of Our Morning Walk

Today, Jager and myself went to a large park situated quite far from our place. We walked past the empty streets - at 6 am there are no people around.

Here in Uzbekistan we have a lot of basil which is used both as an edible and a decorative plant. This one is part of a large flowerbed near a water supply enterprise office. I love the scent; it brings back so many childhood memories. To me, basil is closely associated with my land.

We came to the park and I was dismayed to see a lot of garbage around - plastic bottles, bags, various boxes... I do not understand how a person can come to a beautiful place - to enjoy the beauty - and then leave thrash after themselves. Eh well... I am not a fan of cleaning, especially after strangers, but I had had enough. Jager was thrilled, because I asked him to look for plastic bottles. This is just about one third of what we picked.

This is some unknown fruit falling from a tree,

Jager having rest after running up and down grassy slopes.

As we were going home, I spotted some roses, I love autumn roses in their mature beauty. The age marks which might seem imperfections to other people are somehow endearing to me, making the flowers look more real and vulnerable.

Roses and fat hen - the combination is unusual, but elegant. When I see fat hen, I always remember what my great grandmother told me: people ate it during the WWII in order not to starve to death. Now champions of healthy lifestyle say that fat hen is a very healthy food. Yes, I suppose so, especially when you are not confined to it only.

That was a nice walk, and lasted almost three hours. I am grateful to the dog for dragging me outside and making me move, breath fresh air and see things. Tomorrow we will choose another destination.

Tropical Butterflies Conservatory in Tashkent

There is a Tropical Butterflies Conservatory in our city now. I am not a fan of keeping anyone in captivity, but went anyway - I have little chance of seeing them otherwise. I was relieved to see that the pavillion was huge, with beautiful tropical plants, nice moist and warm air, and the butterflies did not seem to suffer. I am not an expert on them, of course... but there were many flowers and a bunch of these lovely creatures - not too many - fluttering around, and all that looked really nice. I regret not taking note of their names. I guess I will go there again, with my mother. In the meantime, I will just share the photos.

Russian Shawl: Memories in Colour

I can frankly say that I like all Russian shawls. In every one of them I can see something beautiful and appealing. They can be sophisticated and elegant or naive and simple; in subdued shades or bright as if painted by a child; large or small; all are fascinating to me. But, of course, I do have my favourites. Now and then, we find something very special, fascinating and unusual. This time, it is a large and heavy shawl called Memories, by Ekaterina Regunova (шаль "Воспоминания", Екатерина Регунова).

Well, if ever there was a shawl aptly named... This beauty is dreamy and nostalgic; I am thinking  of how it could wrap about the wearer, like a warm cocoon, granting protection - not only from elements, but, possibly, from reality of everyday life as well. A soft and cosy shell, smelling of your grandmother's favorite perfume, and bringing to mind her dark closet full of swooshing silk dresses, and her mirror, reflecting bottles of lead glass and so many precious and charming objects.

Let us just enjoy the photos, even though they do not give the shawl justice. Imagine that it is much more rich and alluring in real life and forgive my poor skills.

The design is quite unusual - it is a large floral frame with a black square inside, as if it is meant for the wearer to be inside. Actually, this is what a shawl is for, in my view, just like any piece of clothing: it is supposed to serve as a frame, and not to play the main role.

The shawl reminds me of still life pictures by an eminent Russian artist, Ivan Khrutsky (1810-1885).

Flowers and Fruits, 1839

Still Life with a Candle. After 1855.

...I know that the actual similarity is scarce, but to me they seem to be in the same mood. The slipping beauty of the world, the last rays of sun in the evening. I hope you liked the shawl and the pictures by Khrutsky.

The shawl is available in my Etsy shop at this point, but it will not stay long. I am thinking of turning it into a scarf, as there is too much damage, unfortunately. It is being offered at the price of a scarf. If you would rather have it as it is, buy it while you can.
