I am a dog person. I have a blog and a forum in Russian, devoted to rescue and to promotion of responsible ownership and breeding (or, rather, non-breeding). That resource is about pets in general, but because I love dogs so much, it is somewhat skewed in their favor. And this blog is not about dogs - it is about our Etsy shop where we sell ikat pillow covers, clothing and accessories; it is about Uzbek culture, arts and crafts, ancient cities of Uzbekistan, travels, Silk Way and Central Asia in general, but not about dogs. At least it was not supposed to be.
Today I was trying to write something about Uzbek traditions, embroidery and pottery - something for your edification and delectation - but just did not have the inspiration. I will do that later, and in the meantime I would like to ask you to say a few words about your dogs (you can tell me about cats, too - Jager and myself are cat-friendly - although I would prefer to cover them separately). Links to blog posts or Facebook with photos and more information are appreciated, as well as links to your shops, if you have any. I love shopping in pet-friendly shops!
Later on I will make a collage with pictures of our pets (I assume that by giving me a link to your dog photo you agree to grant me permission to use it for that collage) and links to your resources.
As for me, I have this wonderful Malinois called Jager:
And my mother owns a rescue Dachshund called Juliya (in this picture she is in the background, playing with a pup we rescued):
I will be happy to receive your comments with links to the photos of your pets (as well as your blogs, pages and shops) and a few words about them. Do not limit yourself to just one photo, please!
Update: the first part of the collage is ready - http://mulberrywhisper.blogspot.de/2012/09/dogs-around-us-part-1.html - thank you everyone!

Galia, thank you! Your Jarna is stunning! We do not have this breed here, pity!
DeleteOli is all over my blog. :) Here is a recent post with some pictures of our much loved dalmatian. http://creativityunmasked.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/cupcake-day-for-rspca.html
ReplyDeleteI have 2 standard schnauzers Twiggy and Fred, they are half brother/sister.
ReplyDeleteSchnauzers are very smart with a great sense of humor.
Twiggy is much smarter than Fred, loves people and works as a therapy dog on weekends.
Fred is a rescue dog and his recovery was long and not easy, but successful.

I love this breed, although I have mostly known the giant ones. Excellent dogs, mostly, with lots of character. Yours are very handsome and well groomed. Thank you!
DeleteHello! Here's a really old post about how Matthias (my GSD) joined my family (http://the-happy-cactus.blogspot.com/2009/04/yes-i-am-that-big-of-dork.html). Feel free to use an updated of picture of Matthias from my Flickr or Instagrm (or Etsy) of him. This is such a great idea. You're dogs are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love your shop! I've got my eye on one of your scarves.
Hi and thank you! The story of finding Matthias is amazing - thank you for sharing! This is a great way to obtain a dog. And he is very, very beautiful - my favorite type :)
DeleteWow!! Gorgeous pics - we are German Shepherd lovers here at Conversation Glass. Check out my wife Grace's blog, "Arwens Pack" - http://arwenspack.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteYou'll see pics of our 3 there :)
Cheers!
Matt from Conversation Glass
Beautiful dogs! Your Arwen is adorable, with eyes like gemstones :) Thank you for sharing!
DeleteI don't have my own dog although I used to have a couple when I was growing up but I still love them and perhaps later in life I will have one again :) Here is a pic of my dad's dog, a truly beautiful Cane corso lady http://tiny.cc/2mqxjw
ReplyDeleteYes, she is a real lady :) I admire their combination of power and elegance. And her skin is silky, and she has a beautiful head. Thank you!
DeleteEugenie...I just find more reasons to adore and admire you everyday and although I don't understand Russian, I think it is fabulous what you are doing with your blog. And your dogs are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIf I haven't already said, I am a major dog lover. I especially love the large breeds and have a soft spot in my heart for Labrador Retrievers, particularly since I grew up with 3 black labs. They were more than happy to tag along with me as I explored the countryside during my childhood. My first dog as a young adult out on my own was a Yellow lab named Basia. She was my constant companion for nearly 11 years until bone cancer took her from us. I wrote about her struggle and our fight to save her from this horribly aggressive disease on a wonderful and resourceful site I found called bonecancerdogs.org. Unfortunately, their site is under construction right now, so I can not link to her specific story, but I can link a memorial video I made for her and posted to youtube if anyone is interested in a peek. Making it really helped get me through the initial grief...a grief like no other I have felt in my life and one that others don't understand unless they too are dog lovers.

It was a long time before we could even think of getting another dog, but after a couple heart wrenching visits to the local shelter, I insisted on "rescuing" a dog...much to my husband's dismay! I could write a book about our long, crazy and stressful journey with our newest family member...but time, work, love and patience pays off. He is the amazing dog that I knew he was when he first pressed his head against my chest during our initial encounter at the shelter. He still has some residual issues to work out, and I am not sure if they will all go away considering the unknown trauma he went through in his first year of life. You can see a "head shot" of him as my avi in my upcycled shop: www.etsy.com/shop/Rinnovato and I have posted a photo of him from a few weeks ago, along with a link back to your blog, on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Rinnovato1
I can never seem to be brief in my writing...So sorry! Thanks again for all you do, Eugenie...for dogs and for others! ~ Marcy : )
Marcy, thank you so much for sharing. I watched you video and was moved so much... A great tribute. Basia was a lovely dog, and I can see so clearly from the video how much you enjoyed being together.
DeleteYour Daniel is beautiful. I thought he was a lab but after seeing the large picture I think that he is probably a mix? A very unusual and handsome dog. Looks like there might be a Pointer or a Ridgeback or a Dalmatian maybe? I love his velour skin and strong legs and beautiful head. And he was very ucky to get to you.
Please do not apologize for writing much. I love to read :) especially when it's you. And I am not quite sure what you are thanking me for, but you are most welcome!
What a fun idea with the collage!
ReplyDeleteHarley is a Pomeranian and he's 6.5 years old. He's our baby and he's spoiled rotten :) He loves to play outside and go for rides in the car. His favorite snack is cheese and he probably eats more human food than dog food...lol :)
Here's a good post of pictures of him through the years:
http://memoriesforlifescrapbooks.blogspot.com/2010/02/blog-post.html
We keep his hair long in the winter and shave him in the summer...so lots of difference in some of the pictures!
I will be happy if my dog be in the collage too , Eugenie ! I hope you will like some of photos .
