The Warm Gold of Autumn

The autumn is on its way; I can already feel it in the air. Even though it is still very hot, I can already feel a very faint smell of dried leaves and flowers. It will be going stronger every day now, and at last there will be days and weeks when air will be filled with this autumnal bitterness mixed with smoke (some leaves are burning far away), and then rain, and wet leaves will be sticking to the pavement... My favorite time of year, when I feel good and like to walk alone, looking at the trees and running water, thinking... often about nothing.
